Ever step into a new year and just feel the momentum building? That’s exactly where we are at Learning Through Loss. New programs are taking shape, fresh collaborations are coming to life, and—yes—a brand-new website is on the way.
Keep reading, and you'll see what we mean. | | | | | | Empowering Youth Amidst the Drug Poisoning Crisis | | We’re still catching our breath from this one. We've just been awarded a game-changing Youth Wellness Grant from the Community Action Initiative and the BC Ministry of Health.
This funding will funnel $240,000 over the next three years to expand our support for youth and families navigating grief related to the toxic drug crisis.
The need for this support has never been greater. In British Columbia, unregulated drug toxicity is the leading cause of death for individuals aged 10 to 59. Over 14,400 lives have been lost to toxic drugs in our province since 2016.
These numbers aren’t just statistics—they’re young people, families, and communities forever changed. This funding is a lifeline for young people who are grieving, helping us offer more programs, support and spaces where youth feel seen and heard.
We are honoured to be part of the solution. Get ready to join us in making truly meaningful impact. | | | | Grief Support Made Easy: The Light in the Dark School Subscription
We know that when a student experiences a profound loss, the classroom can feel like an impossible place. Educators want to help, but often don’t have the tools to do so.
That’s where the Light in the Dark comes in, our new online program created just for teachers and school counsellors who want to better support students through grief.
As part of our pilot program, schools can join at a reduced rate—and thanks to United Way BC, schools in South Vancouver Island can access it for free.
If this sounds right for your school, we’d love to hear from you. | | | | | | EAT | PLAY | DANCE: Get Creative With BIPOC Youth
We know grief is messy, and sometimes, words aren’t enough. That’s why we’re inviting BIPOC youth (ages 13-15) on Southern Vancouver Island to come move, create, and connect in whatever way feels good.
It’s free. It’s fun. And it’s for YOU. Stay in the know once event details are released by submitting our interest form. | |
✔ Play – Shoot hoops, hula hoop, or just chill. ✔ Dance– Let music move you in ways words can’t. ✔ Express yourself – Through art, stories + chats. ✔ Snack – Because real chats need good food. | | | | | | | | | Board Nominations
